On the 13th July 2019 A community Thai boxing club on the Isle of Skye held an fundraisers sponsorship and a Inter-club to raise money for there gym. The interclub saw clubs Travel from Stornoway (ESMT), Inverness (HMAC) and Sheffield (wicker Camp). Each person had two controlled sparring matches each one lasting 3 rounds of 1 minute with a 1 minute rest between rounds.

A photograpther for the local papers “The West Highland Free press” came along in the afternoon to take photos and videos of the event and a interview will be done later on in the week with club owner Ali Simpson on how he feels the day went with a write up in the free press news paper the following week.

Along with the Inter-club the three Skye Muay Thai instructors Ali Simpson (gym Owner), Damon Driver and Arriayn Leighton each did 100 rounds of pad-work taking them around 8 hour to complete they started of at around 11pm and not getting done till after 7pm The 100 rounds where broken up into sets of 20 each round lasting 3 minutes with a 1 minute rest after 20 rounds a longer rest was taken in order to get a proper drink and something to eat and recharge ready for the next set of 20. This alone raised £975 on the just giving Facebook page plus another £100 cash donation on the day.

The raffel raised £293 with each strip costing £5 there was a variety of different prizes including

  • 3 x luxury hampers (Donated by Uig bay campsite)

  • one month free membership to Skye Muay Thai
  • Buddhist amulets
  • £10 voucher to Kyle Butchers
  • Rug (Donated by the Edinburgh Wollen Mill

Overall the day was a success with the club raising around £1500 this money will go towards buying the boxing ring and floor matting as-well as any other equipment that may be needed no Instructor takes any of the money for them self they teach the classes voluntary with it being thought of as a community based club with all money going towards keeping the club up and running.
